Exodus 34:4b–6; 2 Cor. 13:11–13; John 3:16–18

Holy Father, Holy Son,

Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee;

While in essence only One,

Undivided God we claim Thee;

And adoring bend the knee,

While we own the mystery.

This verse from the hymn “Holy God We Praise They Name” proclaims the doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity about as well as any I’ve seen. God is One in three Persons—One in three and three in One. What does it mean that one is three and three are one? How can three persons be one in a single Divine essence? That is what we call in theology a mystery, and a mystery is something we cannot fully understand on this side of our existence. The Trinity is our greatest mystery.

There's a pious legend about St. Augustine and the Trinity.
