Genesis 14:18–20; 1 Cor. 11:23–26; Luke 9:11b–17

Our celebration today is about one of the central mysteries of our faith, the other being our celebration last weekend of the Most Holy Trinity. That celebration was about a central mystery of our faith concerning who God is, and it reveals something critical to our faith—that God is relational. In the closest analogy in human terms, God is a family and in familial relationship: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It’s a deep mystery of the orthodox Catholic faith.

The emphasis today is on that other tremendous mystery, the Eucharist—the body, blood, soul, and Divinity of Christ. This, too, is a central mystery of our faith. We have seven mysteries of our faith, our seven sacraments, which are entwined with these two dogmatic truths.
