God bless the broken road—First Sunday of Lent 2019 (Cycle C)
Deut. 26:4–10; Rom. 10:8–13; Luke 4:1–13
As I was preparing this weekend for today’s homily, I reflected on how social media can impact us for better or worse. Last night, I got a pleasant bit of the positive. Facebook has these apps that will filter through your status updates and then correlate your information with movie characters, best occupations—apparently mine is “marauding Viking”—or other silly associations that are more or less entertaining. The one I clicked on was supposed to tell me the song that best suits my life, and I have to say the result was quite a coincidence, a song by Rascal Flatts that goes like this: “God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you.” It’s coincidental, because Gina and I often refer to it as our song.
