The History Channel is running a show tonight on archaeological evidence for the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. What's rather cool about it is that they've indeed found some evidence for two cities in close proximity to the Dead Sea that were destroyed quite suddenly. Wikipedia has an entry that seems to fairly objective at a first glance. There are a number of other sites that have clearly biased accounts. (Whether they're correct is another issue. I happen to believe that the locations are correct.)
Anyway, fascinating stuff. When I first heard about these sites back when I was in graduate school the first time, I started thinking other parts of the Genesis account, and this poem was born.
